Best Tips for Visiting the Amalfi Coast

1. Traveling to/around the Coast

100% it is worth taking the transfer car from the airport. We decided taking the train was not worth the hassle. We were staying Maiori and hired XX to take us from the Naples airport. Skip lugging your suitcase around and enjoy the comfort and views of your ride. This is contingent on if you decide you’re not renting a car.

Let’s also chat about public transport in the Amalfi Coast. To be frank, it stinks. We used the bus system to go on our boat day. Now getting to the boat we had no issues. On the way home we almost thought we were stuck! The bus was over an hour late. Thankfully we made it home but I would not recommend trusting the time tables for the buses. Now the boat transfers in between the towns is fantastic! They are on time and you get to have stunning views while traveling town to town.

Overall, next visit to the Amalfi Coast I will be renting a car to get around!

2. Boat Day

If there’s anything you take from this blog, book the boat day. Not only does it end of being the best day, it’s incredible to experience sea and to see the cities from the water. We were lucky enough to cruise along the coast line and visit the iconic capri and the views around the island. I loved that we had a few hours to explore on the island as well before getting back on board. So once again I’ll say book the boat tour. You won’t regret it.

3. How long/where should you stay?

We stayed for three nights but it turned out to be 2 and a half full days. Truly we should have stayed longer. We would’ve felt more relaxed when visiting Amalfi or Positano. We did not have enough time to wander the streets in every town. We choose to relax at the beach for half the day instead which was really nice don’t get me wrong.

We enjoyed staying in one of the lesser known towns and seeing a different side of the Amalfi Coast than what you normally see on social media.Doing this also allowed us to save money at a time when we were ballin’ on a budget. If I were to go back with someone who has never been I’d stay in one of a better known town like Positano. This would allow you easy access to other days, doing a boat tour leaving from the town, and provide enough time to just wander.

If there is anything I have learned from all my travels, it is that boat days are the BEST day and that in every schedule there should be room to wander!
